El pasado 20 de abril venció el plazo para que México informara a la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) el cumplimiento de la Convención sobre los Derechos del Niño y, de acuerdo con la Red por los Derechos de la Infancia (Redim), el compromiso no fue cumplido por el Gobierno federal.

El informe que ya debía entregar tiene que responder a las recomendaciones que el Comité de los Derechos del Niño de la ONU hizo a México en 2006, en las cuales alertó sobre la falta de un mecanismo integral de protección a la infancia.

Para Valeria Geremia, coordinadora ejecutiva de la Redim, esto revela que México no ha dado cabal cumplimiento a los ordenamientos internacionales.

"El verdadero problema de que no entreguen los informes a tiempo es que revelan que no se ha cumplido con las recomendaciones de la ONU sobre una protección integral para la infancia", señaló en entrevista.

"Lo que nos refleja esto es que la infancia no es prioridad para el Estado mexicano. Si lo fuera, no habría inconvenientes para cumplir las recomendaciones de la ONU. Muchas veces el Gobierno argumenta la falta de recursos económicos, pero creemos que el problema es la falta de interés", dijo.

Las recomendaciones que la ONU hizo a México en 2006 fueron establecer un Sistema Nacional de Seguimiento y Vigilancia de la Aplicación de la Convención, crear un sistema de datos en materia de infancia y crear políticas de Estado que garanticen el acceso a la salud y la educación de la infancia y medidas para disminuir la violencia intrafamiliar y social que viven los niños y niñas, así como la creación de la Ley Federal de Justicia para Adolescentes, que aún no es aprobada.

"Por ello solicitamos al Estado mexicano que rinda el informe al Comité y que dé cumplimiento a las recomendaciones de 2006", señaló Geremia.
